By Including a Top Hitter for India's ODIs, the West Indies Cause Selection Shock

Top Hitter for India's ODI

Shimron Hetmyer, the top batsman for the West Indies, has been recalled for their forthcoming ODI series against India at home.

After a great season with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, where they scored 299 runs total from 13 innings, Hetmyer, who hadn't played for the Caribbean team in about a year, was given the opportunity to rejoin the team.

If Hetmyer is chosen, it will be his first game in West Indies uniform since a T20I match against New Zealand in August of last year. Because he missed a flight out of the Caribbean, the outstanding 26-year-old was earlier denied a berth on his team's squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia.

Hetmyer played his final 50-over game in July 2021 against Australia. He hasn't played in an ODI for the West Indies in the past two years.

The West Indies released their 15-man squad on Monday, which included fast bowler Oshane Thomas as well as injured players Jayden Seales, Yannic Cariah, and Gudakesh Motie. Hetmyer is not every player that got called up for the ODI series.

Desmond Haynes, the head selector, is excited about the ODI series against India and has confidence in Hetmyer and Thomas' abilities. Haynes is an ex- West Indies captain.

The gang is glad to have Shimron and Oshane back. Both have a successful track record in international competition, according to Haynes, and we think they'll fit right in with the system.

Oshane has a lot of expertise with the most current ball and bowls quickly. Shimron's hitting approach will be very useful, especially in the middle innings, and he has the potential to be a finisher.

The three games will be led by wicketkeeper batsman Shai Hope because typical captains Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran are unable to play in the series.

The series is crucial for India as the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup nears later this year. On Thursday, Barbados will host the first One Day International.

West Indies were not allowed to proceed to the 50-over World Cup this year because they did not finish in the top two in Zimbabwe's most recent ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier match.

Kevin Sinclair, Yannic Cariah, Keacy Carty, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Romario Shepherd, Dominic Drakes, Alick Athanaze, Kyle Mayers, Jayden Seales, Shimron Hetmyer,  and Oshane Thomas are the West Indies' players. Shai Hope is the team's captain. Rovman Powell is the vice-captain.

First ODI will be played on July 27 at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

29th of July, Kensington Oval, Barbados, second ODI

Third ODI, Trinidad's Brian Lara Cricket Academy, August 1.
